What to expect

This Exhibition marks the grand reveal of the life work of Taos painter, Gagoghs (Patrick Thomas Mallon). In his final years, he dedicated himself completely to his vision, painting between 8-16 hours a day with tiny paintbrushes, often seven days a week. His available body of work includes 48 oil paintings on wood panels and 34 drawings. His style, which can be described as Metaphysical Realism, explores the undercurrents of human existence. Through his paintings, Gagoghs confronted the realities we often refuse to acknowledge in polite society—including the pandemic of incest and human violence—while also revealing the possibility of joy and liberation that arises when truth is brought to light. His aim was not only to create, but to instigate the discussion of mass community healing. This show also serves as a celebration of his life, in lieu of a traditional memorial. Gagoghs lived with quiet strength while enduring a long unknown illness, and passed on May 1st, 2024 after jumping from the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. He leaves behind his body of work for all to witness and a dedicated Widow to bring it to the world.

The show will display paintings gifted to Gagoghs’ best friend and may only be on display for this show only before they find their way home with their proper owner. His two Triptychs “AWE” and “Materialized Enlightenment” will be on display. “AWE” took him 2 years to complete, while “Materialized Enlightenment” is the painting that he completed on the day of his passing telling the story of his body dissolving and his spirit preparing to move onto that next place. The show is curated by his Widow, Janay` Morgan Mallon. Various other paintings will be available for sale along with limited addition original copies of his Novel written under his previous alias, Von Pat, titled “Jumpers Teeth.” Please stop by to pay your respects and appreciate the work to which he dedicated his life so diligently.

Artis Statement: “The images I am to show you are not born from me for purpose, praise, rebuke—none of those meaningless contraptions. I am not here to become some name, nor am I here to leave me behind. I do not matter. So what is left are images to question, look into without comparison to some stupid ideology. To contrive an image is to play with a dead thing. The images I am to show you are not made up from my imagination. I do not filter what is actual through my mind, which would be rather silly, childish. But simply what I am to show you comes when there is no thought, no illusions, no conditions.”
